Dakota's statewide public broadcasting network. SDPB is vital
community resource producing and broadcasting high-quality,
commercial-free programs and valuable community outreach projects
that educate, enlighten and entertain.
How many days did the 1973 siege of Wounded Knee last?
The 1973 siege of Wounded Knee lasted 71 days. A group called AIM
(American Indian Movement) took control of the town to protest the
harsh conditions on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Two Native
Americans were killed and several government agents were injured
during the standoff.
Was D. B. Gurney, president and farm reporter of WNAX, the owner
and operator of Gurney seed and Nursery of Yankton?
Yes, the radio station was purchased by Gurney in the 1920s. The
station was used to advertise the nurseries’ products. They also
provided up to date trusted farm reporting.
Who is the oldest columnist in the country?
Fred Breukelman of Corsica is the oldest columnist in the country.
Fred turned 100 years old on February 15th, 2005. Fred and an
associate purchased the Corsica Globe in 1929. He started writing a
weekly column in 1930. Fred had a small break in 1977 when he sold
the paper and did not write the column for 2 months.
How many subscribers does the largest paper in South Dakota have?
The Sioux Falls Argus Leader is the largest paper in South Dakota.
There are 53,319 daily papers and 75,105 Sunday papers in
circulation.
How many episodes of Dakota Pathways will be produced?
SDPB TV is planning on producing (20) fourteen-minute episodes.
How long can I legally use a Dakota Pathway show after I have
taped it?
All of the Dakota Pathways episodes are produced by SDPB. You have
unlimited educational rights to use these programs. So enjoy them
for years. Note: Some of the shows we air are not produced by SDPB
and only have rights for a year. Please email EdServices@sdpb.org if
you have questions about other shows.
When are the Dakota Pathways shows aired on SDPB?
Throughout the school year Dakota Pathways will air on Mondays and
Fridays from 2:15pm – 2:30pm CT. Also, we air Dakota Pathways during
the overnight schedule. The overnight schedule can be accessed on
the Internet at http://www.sdpb.org/
, in our monthly SDPB Magazine, or in our weekly education
